Heath services unions and managers have reached agreement on a new pay deal to run until March 2009, averting the threat of strike action.

The sector’s 190,000 workers will get a 3.25% rise in June and a one-off payment of 1% of their annual salary in October. Extra holiday rules for older staff will remain intact.
