Abel Tasman, who ‘discovered’ New Zealand, early feminist Aletta Jacobs, speed skater Marianne Timmer and encyclopedia compiler Anthony Winkler Prins are among 52 famous people from Groningen province included in a new historical reference list.

The aim of the list, known as a canon, is to make local people more aware of their rich history.
