Dutch confidence rises and falls

Confidence in the Dutch economy grew in the manufacturing sector in May but consumer confidence fell, according to figures released on Tuesday by the central statistics agency CBS.

While the manufacturing index registered a rise from 3.0 in April to 3.7 in May, consumer confidence fell from -12 in April to -17.
Manufacturers are optimistic about their three-month order books and expected production, says the CBS. Consumers are worried about their out-goings due to increases in energy prices and higher taxes on tobacco, petrol and flights.
