Better off benefit from housing subsidies
Around half of the €14.5bn the government spends each year on making sure there is a supply of affordable housing goes to well-off or average income households, according to calculations by the government’s economic policy think tank CPB.
This is because cheap housing is often occupied by people who can afford higher rents or mortgages, the CPB says.
