Wife-killer’s privacy paramount: court

An Amsterdam court has ruled that tv crime reporter Peter R. de Vries cannot broadcast video footage of a man convicted of the manslaughter of his wife as part of a programme warning of the dangers of internet dating.

De Vries discovered last year that Paul van Osch was looking for a new relationship via an internet dating site.
The judge said Van Osch’s right to privacy weighed heavier than De Vries’ freedom of expression in this case.
De Vries will be liable to a maximum fine of €100,000 if he goes ahead with the broadcast.
