Toddlers to get extra language lessons
The government has allocated €30m this year, rising to €43m by 2011, to provide Dutch language lessons for pre-school age children.
Toddlers between 2.5 and four will be referred to the classes by the state’s childcare clinics if experts feel the children do not speak enough Dutch.
A pilot scheme has already started in Groningen and similar projects will be introduced in Amsterdam, Rotterdam The Hague and Utrecht shortly, says the Volkskrant.
