Suspects will be granted more rights in criminal cases under new legislation proposed by justice minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin on Wednesday, reports ANP news service.

An overwhelming majority of MPs supported the bill which will, for example, allow those on trial to ask for as contra expertise.
The new law has been given priority following mistakes made by the public prosecution service in the so-called Schiedam park murder in which a man was wrongfully convicted and spent many years in prison.
