Hamer to stand for Labour leadership

MP Mariëtte Hamer is to stand as a candidate for the leadership of the parliamentary Labour party (PvdA). Jacques Tichelaar is stepping down from the job after a heart operation earlier this year.

Hamer is currently the PvdA’s deputy parliamentary leader and has been doing the job in Tichelaar’s absence.
According to media speculation, energy and education specialists Diederik Samsom and Jeroen Dijsselbloem are also interested in the job. The PvdA is expected to announce the new leader on Tuesday.
