Government to destroy some cluster bombs
The government is to destroy a large number of its cluster bombs, reports Thursday’s Volkskrant.
Foreign minister Maxime Verhagen and defence minister Eimert van Middelkoop told parliament on Wednesday evening that the most deadly cluster bomb, fired from F-16 fighter planes, will be banned.
There are as yet no plans to ban the less damaging variety, fired from Apache helicopters in Afghanistan, says the paper.
