Gays turn right in their voting intentions
Homosexuals have become more right-wing in their voting intentions, with Liberal Democrats (D66) and Rita Verdonk’s nationalist Trots op Nederland (TON) winning most approval, according to research by tv news programme Nova, the Gaykrant newspaper and website Gay.nl.
Of the 3,500 respondents, most of them male, 22% told the Gaykrant and 14% told Gay.nl they would vote for D66. TON is backed by 19% of Gaykrant and 33% of Gay.nl readers.
Professor of sociology Rob Tielman told Thursday’s Telegraaf that if all gay men and women voted, they would account for between five and ten seats in parliament.
Some 2% of the general population is a D66 supporter and 13% would vote for TON, news agency ANP said.
