‘Explosive growth’ in number of robberies
The number of armed robberies at shops, cafés and restaurants rose by 322 incidents last year to over 2,000, according to the AD newspaper’s annual crime monitor published today.
The AD says the ‘explosive growth’ in robberies in 2007 was not limited to major cities but also took place in smaller rural towns.
Last year, the monitor reported a fall in the number of attacks in 2006 compared with the preceding year. According to the paper the decline was due to extra efforts by the police and public prosecution service.
