Dutch back Serbia treaty compromise
The Netherlands and Belgium have drawn up a compromise proposal for a treaty between the European Union and Serbia, according to various media reports on Monday.
The two countries are opposed to the signing of a formal stabilisation and association agreement, seen as a stepping stone to full EU membership, until Serbia agrees to extradite suspected war criminals to the UN tribunal in The Hague.
Under the new plan, the agreement would be signed in June but would not take effect until Serbia cooperates with war crimes tribunal.
