Dozens arrested in Almere stop and search
A massive check by police and tax officials on drivers and public transport users in the city of Almere on Saturday night resulted in several dozen arrests and hundreds of fines being handed out, news agency ANP reports.
In total, 43 people with tax debts totalling €150,000 were identified. Some 34 people were arrested for drink driving, drugs or weapons possession and not having ID.
A hundred motorists were cautioned for having broken lights, bald tyres or noisy exhaust pipes and 74 people were fined for using buses and trains without tickets or having fake season tickets.
Some 250 officials were involved in the operation on 5,000 people and 1,000 vehicles under the code name Blue Lagoon.
