CDA wants panel to vet takeovers
The Christian Democrat (CDA) party wants an independent panel set up to supervise the takeover of Dutch companies by organisations only interested in making a quick profit, reports Tuesday’s NRC Handelsblad.
A supervisory panel would ensure that these takeovers are not to the detriment of the number of Dutch companies or of employment opportunities in the Netherlands.
In a letter to Tuesday’s Financieele Dagblad, CDA party leader Pieter van Geel says that the Netherlands profits from cheap products on the international market, while globalisation feeds the fear of losing companies and jobs.
‘We need new rules to stave off undesirable side-effects,’ he told the paper.
