Book prize doubled after winner complains

The cash prize for the three-yearly Netherlands Literature Prize has been more than doubled to €40,000, with an additional €20,000 for promotion of the winner and his or her work, reports news agency ANP on Tuesday.

The decision comes after last year’s winner, Jeroen Brouwers, refused the award because the prize money, at €16,000, was too low.
