Berlusconi opens Alitalia door to KLM

Newly elected Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi said on Wednesday that the sale of national airline Alitalia to Air France-KLM is a possibility, reports Thursday’s Financieele Dagblad.

This would be on the condition that Alitalia has ‘an equal footing’ in any agreement, the paper said.
Air France-KLM made a conditional offer of €138m for the airline in March. At the time, Berlusconi was quoted as saying he would veto the takeover.
Talks broke down in early April because Alitalia’s unions and the operator of Malpensa airport near Milan both oppos the deal.
