Amsterdam city council has begun an investigation into possible corruption involving city officials and the development of the prestigious Zuidas business area, the Volkskrant reported on Tuesday.
The probe stems from the criminal investigation into property fraud involving the Philips pension fund and property developer Bouwfonds. That investigation centres on a number of important Zuidas projects.
A council official told the paper the investigation has a ‘preventive’ nature and no-one has been sacked or suspended. The Zuidas development is led by a 15-strong team of officials, supported by a further 250 civil servants.
