The number of wild boar roaming the Veluwe heathland area is still too high because hunters have only killed around 3,900 animals, 1,000 fewer than planned, farm minister Gerda Verburg told MPs on Thursday.
Some experts say the region can only cope with 800 boar, but there are now around 1,800 and the breeding season is yet to begin. The cull caused a major row in parliament last year.
