Shell divests IT services
Shell signed three major outsourcing deals on Monday under the earlier announced divestment of much of its IT services.
The deals, with total value of $4bn over five years, have been signed with AT&T, Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and T-Systems, part of Deutsche Telekom.
News agency ANP reports that some 1,800 Shell staff and 1,100 people on temporary contracts will be transferred to a new owner under the deal.
The agreement allows Shell ‘to focus on information technology that drives its competitive position in the oil and gas market, while suppliers focus on improving essential IT capability,’ Shell spokesman Alan Matula said.
