Rijksmuseum cannot afford Rembrandt

The Rijksmuseum has decided to give up its efforts to buy a painting by Rembrandt from the Douglas-Pennant family in Wales, says Wednesday’s Volkskrant.


The museum has scraped together €34m for the Portrait of Catrina Hooghsaet (1657) but the owners want ‘many millions more’ according to the museum’s Peter Sigmond.
