Household debt doubles in five years

The average Dutch household had debts of €30,000 last year, almost double the figure five years ago, said the debt relief association NVVK in Friday’s AD.

‘We are shocked by these figures,’ the association’s chairman Ger Jaarsma said. ‘People are getting into debt more easily and borrowing increasingly high amounts of money.’
Last year 47,500 people registered for help with the NVVK. On average they owe money to 13 different companies and individuals.
