Dutch EU whistleblower strikes again
Dutch Euro MP Paul Buitenen has once again published parts of a confidential report into suspected financial fraud involving other MEPs on his website, reports ANP news service.
It is the second time Buitenen has broken the European parliament’s confidentiality regulations and as such he could face an official warning ore a fine, said ANP.
The report, which has already been leaked, describes financial irregularities surrounding parliamentary assistants, such as the payment of two apparently non-existent staff and a salary of €15,000 a month to the relative of a Euro MP.
There is also confusion about the payment of social security premiums for parliamentary assistants, says ANP.
A European parliament spokesman said that fraud has not been proved and that complicated regulations are more likely to be a cause of the irregularities, says ANP.
