Danish pm attacks Wilders over film
Denmark’s prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen has strongly criticised anti-immigration MP Geert Wilders and his plans to release a short film attacking the Koran later this month.
‘I dissociate myself completely from Geert Wilders’ points of view, and I must clearly reject Mr Wilders’ attempt at associating his views to those of the Danish government,’ Rasmussen was reported as saying.
‘The Danish government respects all religions. Wilders generalises and demonises groups because of their religious or ethnic background.’
Rasmussen statement followed several appearances by Wilders on Danish television in which he praised the Danish pm for his stance on freedom of expression – in the connection with the Danish cartoon riots.
‘I wish we had such a prime minister in Holland,’ Wilders was reported as saying. ‘Unfortunately we have a coward who will not stand fast on the constitution’s words about freedom of expression, but instead has sided with the Taliban.’
