Court rules against Maastricht ‘coffee shops’

Maastricht city council will not be granted a licence to build coffee shops selling soft drugs on the edge of the city, a court ruled on Tuesday.


Complaints by neighbouring councils and local businesses were upheld by the court, ANP news service reported on Tuesday.
Maastricht wants to concentrate coffee shops where marijuana is sold on the edge of the city in an effort to make the city centre drugs free.
