CDA to bring in bill to stop tv loan adverts

The senior government coalition Christian Democrat party is to introduce draft legislation to ban tv advertising for loans, reports ANP news service.

The aim is to protect people from building up debts. The new law is an initiative from CDA MP Elly Blanksma who says she expects a parliamentary majority to support the move.
However coalition partner Labour and the opposition Liberal party doubt whether a ban on tv advertising for loans will be effective, says ANP.
Last year finance minister Wouter Bos announced he will raise the maximum fine for misleading advertising by credit companies from €30,000 to €500,000.
