Arnhem rescues football club Vitesse

Arnhem city council has voted by 23 to 15 to rescue the city’s football club Vitesse which is in serious financial trouble and under court protection from creditors.


At a meeting on Monday night, attended by hundreds of supporters, the council agreed to cancel the club’s €12m debt in return for a €880,000 payment.
The club has also agreed to a far-reaching probe into its financial affairs over the past five years, the Telegraaf reports.
Premier division Vitesse is currently in 10th place in the league.
