Amsterdam to sell stake in power firm

Amsterdam city council wants to sell its 9.6% stake in the commercial activities of energy concern Nuon, reports Friday’s Financieele Dagblad.

The stake is worth ‘at least €500,000,’ says council executive Carolien Gehrels.
She adds that she expects a numbers of worldwide players to be interested in buying Amsterdam’s share.
Amsterdam will retain its stake in Nuon’s distribution grid.
The local and provincial governments that own Nuon are divided on the issue of selling their stakes. The province of Gelderland, which is the biggest shareholder with 44% of the shares, said recently that it plans to hold on to its stake for another four to six years.
