Ajax reaches departure deal with director

Amsterdam football club Ajax announced on Wednesday that it has reached agreement with its managing director Maarten Fontein whose contract will be terminated on April 1.

Fontein was heavily criticised in a recent report on the football club’s management and was suspended at the weekend. The suspension has now been lifted.
Fontein will not leave Ajax with empty hands, reports ANP news service. As well as his contractual right to compensation, he will be given a gratuity for as a token of appreciation for his commercial services for the club – Fontein helped Ajax to secure a lucrative sponsorship contract with insurer Aegon. No figures were disclosed.
While successful on the commercial side, Fontein has been criticised for his lack of empathy for football.
