Ajax capitalise on slip-up from PSV
Amsterdam football club Ajax closed the gap with premier league leaders PSV of Eindhoven to six points on Sunday.
PSV suffered a surprising 3-1 defeat away to FC Utrecht, while Ajax hammered lowly-placed Excelsior of Rotterdam 4-0.
The teams play each other next Sunday, giving the Amsterdam club the chance to reduce PSV’s lead even further.
‘If we win away to PSV next week then the competition will be thrown open. We have a better goal difference than PSV,’ Ajax coach Adrie Koster told De Telegraaf.
Rotterdam’s Feyenoord continued its poor form with a 3-1 defeat away to NEC of Nijmegen.
Feyenoord are in fourth place 11 points off the lead.
