Students develop walking frame satnav
Students at the HAN college in Arnhem and Nijmegen have developed a simplified satellite navigation system for frail elderly people with walking frames, regional newspaper BN DeStem said on Tuesday.
The system is aimed at people who living in nursing homes and who tend to become confused or lose their way.
Users who, for example, cannot find the coffee bar or recreation room, can click on the symbol on the machine which is attached to the frame. The apparatus then makes contact with receivers dotted around the nursing home and arrows on screen guide the user to his or her destination.
Nursing home Betuweland in Bemmel is set to be the first to try out the system, HAN lecturer Hans Oost told the newspaper.
