MPs, patient groups dismiss new care plan
Patient groups and MPs from across the political spectrum have rejected the suggestion that responsibility for long-term residential care should be transferred to health insurance companies.
The recommendation was made in a plan put forward by the government’s health advisory council on Thursday.
MPs said they are worried that vulnerable groups such as the elderly and mentally handicapped will end up worse off under the plan.
Residential care now accounts for some 40% of health service spending.
