Friendly-fire incident not in line with rules

The military operation in Afghanistan last month in which two Dutch soldiers died was not carried out according to existing tactical procedures, according to an official report into the incident.


The report says the two Dutch soldiers were ‘probably’ killed by friendly fire while the two Afghans ‘definitely’ died from friendly fire.
Another Dutch soldier, who lost both his legs in the incident. was also probably hit by his fellow soldiers, the report says.
The report has been passed on to the public prosecution department.
