A 43-year-old woman will appear in court in Amsterdam next week charged with child abuse after it emerged that her two sons, now aged 10 and 13, were systematically beaten and denied contact with other people since birth.

The woman’s husband committed suicide while in custody last year.
The family was not under the supervision of social workers but was known to the Salvation Army, news agency ANP reported.
