Average energy bills set to rise €26

The average Dutch household will pay €1,785 for gas and electricity this year based on January’s tariffs, meaning prices have gone up €26 on December 2007, reports the national statistics body CBS on Monday.

The increase is the result of higher gas prices and higher energy taxes but are compensated to some extent by a 4% fall in electricity prices announced in July last year (the biggest decrease since April 2001), the CBS said.
Dutch energy prices are increasing relatively sharper than other goods and services, the CBS said. Between 2000 and 2007, inflation rose 17% compared with an 75% increase in energy prices.
