The fishing village of Volendam is making a bid to join the likes of Sydney, Moscow, London and New York in the new world edition of Monopoly due out in September.

Its bid for international allure, which will be decided by internet vote, is being supported by a number of local celebrities. Volendam hopes to attract enough support to take the ‘our village’ spot on the board.
