S&N rejects higher Heineken bid

British brewer Scottish & Newcastle on Thursday rejected a new bid of 780 pence per share from sector rivals Heineken and Carlsberg as still too low, reports Dutch news service ANP. The new offer values S&N at €10.1bn, says ANP.

The new bid is 60 pence higher than the Dutch-Danish partners’ inititial offer of 720 pence per share. This was later increased to 750 pence.
S&N said on Thursday that it is only prepared to enter talks with Heineken and Carlsberg if there is an offer of at least 800 pence per share on the table, ANP said.
Heineken and Carlsberg have until January 21 to come with a definite offer. Otherwise they will have to wait six months before being allowed to make a new takeover attempt, ANP said.
