PSV extend lead in premier league

PSV Eindhoven increased their lead in the premier league to five points, after beating Excelsior of Rotterdam 2-1 on Saturday.

Second-placed Ajax of Amsterdam could only manage a 2-2 draw yesterday away to Arnhem’s Vitesse.
The Amsterdam club squandered several chances to clinch victory and will now have to beat PSV in their game on Wednesday if they are to keep in touch with the champions.
Feyenoord of Rotterdam held on to third spot with an unimpressive 1-1 draw at home to FC Groningen, who are in fifth position.
Feyenoord manager Bert van Marwijk said in a Dutch newspaper interview that his team were pulling themselves back from a recent slump of form. He praised Dutch international Denny Landzaat who has just joined the club in a transfer from Wigan Athletic, the English premier side.
