Privacy watchdog to show more teeth

Privacy watchdog CBP plans to show its teeth more in future, says its chairman Jacob Kohnstamm on Monday to coincide with the European Day of Privacy.

Kohnstamm told ANP news service that society is fast developing into ‘a glass society where no one can hide’ .He said the CBP is to become more alert in carrying out ‘penetrating and sometimes unannounced investigations’ into privacy violations and in enforcing fines.
The Day of Privacy is a Council of Europe initiative to inform people about their rights when governments, industry and other organisations use their personal details.
Research has shown that 70% of Europeans are unaware of their rights and how their details are protected.
