New nationals to swear allegiance
People who which to become Dutch nationals will soon have to make a formal declaration of allegiance, the Telegraaf reports on Thursday.
The paper says a majority of MPs back plans to require new nationals to swear that they will respect the Dutch legal system and freedoms and will do their duty as citizens.
MPs are due to debate the issue of dual nationality with justice minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin this afternoon. During the debate Hirsch Ballin is expected to say under what circumstances people can lose their Dutch nationality, the Telegraaf said.
