Minister backs down on teaching hours

The education ministry is to set up a wide-ranging investigation into the number of lessons pupils have in secondary schools, MPs were told on Wednesday.

Until the results of the investigation are known, junior education minister Marja van Bijsterveldt says she will be ‘lenient’ with schools that do not reach the 1,040 hour quota for lessons.
Some 200 of the country’s 600 secondary schools have signed up to the campaign against official teaching quotas.
