Erasmus prize for Ian Buruma

Dutch-British academic and writer Ian Buruma has been awarded this year’s Erasmus prize worth €150,000.

The prize, launched by prince Bernhard in 1958, is awarded to a person or institution that has made an ‘exceptionally important contribution to European culture’.
Buruma hit the headlines two years ago with the publication of his book Murder in Amsterdam, about the murder of film-maker Theo van Gogh.
