Dutch film maker released in Kenya
Dutch documentary maker Fleur van Dissel arrived back at Schiphol airport on Sunday morning having been released from jail in Kenya on Saturday.
She told waiting journalists that she had been well-treated and that the Kenyan authorities had dealt with her case quickly and correctly.
The 45-year-old Van Dissel was arrested at Nairobi airport on Thursday night on suspicion of being involved with terrorism. But Monday’s Volkskrant reports her as saying that the word ‘terrorism’ was not used by the authorities.
She was in Kenya to make a documentary about opposition leader Raila Odinga but said the film is about leadership. ‘I make no comment on whether he is a good leader or not,’ she said.
Van Dissel would not comment on whether she would return to Kenya. She was allowed to bring the filmed material with her and no one said she could not return, she said.
