Coalition calm over inflation fears

The threat of rising inflation is being carefully monitored by MPs in the coalition government but has not yet led to calls for an increase in spending power, according to news agency ANP.

MPs said they are keeping an eye on the situation following the rise in oil prices to over $100 a barrel.
Spending power for most families will go down this year, the cabinet admitted when it announced its annual budget plans in September.
But the government has promised improvements in 2009, ANP said.
