Archbishop softens stand on homosexuals

The new archbishop of Utrecht, Wim Eijk, has softened his stand on homosexuals after eight years ago describing homosexuality as ‘a neurotic development disorder’.

Eijk, sworn in as archbishop on Saturday, told the Nederlands Dagblad in an interview that homosexuality does not have an established cause.
Homosexuality can be psychologically determined or be present in the genes, Eijk said. Christian teaching does not provide an answer, he told the paper. ‘You need to ask science and that is not clear. The final word has not yet been spoken.’
Eijk also said that all religions have homosexual members who need pastoral care.
