Wild boar on the menu

Hunters in the Veluwe heathland region have shot some 3,000 wild boar so far this season, producing over 57,000 kilos of meat, says the local hunters’ association.

Hunters shoot the boar after first attracting them with food. Plans to use beaters to drive the boar towards the hunters where given government approval but have been overturned by the courts.
The Veluwe can only support some 800 boar, according to wildlife experts, but had around 6,000 before the hunting season began.
