Dutch car satellite navigation system maker TomTom has overtaken its main rival Garmin on the US market, says research bureau NPD.

TomTom had 30.6% of October satnav sales, while Garmin took 29.3%, NPD says.
When the price of the equipment is taken into account, Garmin is ahead with 40.1% of sales. TomTom, which recently slashed its prices in the US, is on 26.5%.
