Nuon in crisis over Essent merger: FD
An internal crisis has developed within energy concern Nuon following a recent attempt to revive plans for a merger with its rival Essent, reports Friday’s Financieele Dagblad.
A number of prominent Dutch businessmen and politicians have been pushing to reanimate talks between the two largest Dutch power companies since these were abandoned in September.
Unnamed sources within both companies confirm that attempts have been made to put the merger back on the agenda, the paper says. One of them talks about a ‘fifth column’ involving at least three of Nuon’s supervisory board members (Wim Meijer, Pieter Bouw and Jacques Schraven) and has called for their resignation.
Nuon’s shareholders (local governments), supervisory board and management board are to meet in Amsterdam today to discuss the company’s future.
