Minister wants more rights for self-employed
The number of hours which freelancers have to work to qualify for tax breaks should be reduced and replaced by a sliding scale, junior economic affairs minister Frank Heemskerk will tell MPs today.
In addition, the certificate (VAR) which self-employed people need to have should be valid for longer than one year and it should be possible to move pension rights, Heemskerk is reported as saying in Monday’s Financieele Dagblad.
The minister told the paper that he was alert to the growth in self-employment. If the number of self-employed (ZZP’ers) went up from 10% of the working population to 30%, it would begin to affect collective insurance schemes such as pensions, he told the paper.
