CEO bonuses double in five years

The bonuses paid to CEOs at listed companies more than doubled between 2002 and 2006 while basic salaries rose 20%, according to researchers at Erasmus University.


The research, quoted in Monday’s Financieele Dagblad, also shows that there is only a weak correlation between bonus and company performance, the paper says.
‘This justifies a debate about fast-growing bonuses,’ professor Gerard Mertens told the paper.
