Akzo Nobel may take steps on top pay

Akzo Nobel CEO Hans Wijers in in talks with the company’s supervisory board about freezing executive stocks and options when takeover rumours surface, a company spokesman has confirmed.

‘We do not want to give the impression that management has a financial interest in selling the company,’ the spokesman said.
The move follows a row over the €28m pay-off made to ICI boss John McAdam after the British company was rtaken over by Akzo Nobel.
In addition, Wijers thinks that senior staff should get the same pay-off deal when they leave a firm as ordinary workers – roughly one month’s salary for every year worked. ‘I do not see why they should get more,’ Wijers, a former economic affairs minister, told Elsevier magazine.
